John McCain Family, Friends & Celebs Pay Tribute After Senator's Death

Love and heartfelt condolences from family, friends, fellow politicians and celebrities are pouring in for John McCain ... who died Saturday afternoon at age 81 after a year-long battle with brain cancer.

John's wife, Cindy, says ... "My heart is broken. I am so lucky to have lived the adventure of loving this incredible man for 38 years. He passed the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the the place he loved best."

McCain's daugther, Meghan, shared an emotional message captioned "I love you forever."

My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!

George W. Bush on John McCain: "Some lives are so vivid, it is difficult to imagine them ended. Some voices are so vibrant, it is hard to think of them stilled. John McCain was a man of deep conviction and a patriot of the highest order." https://t.co/Spx9rmHGoy pic.twitter.com/7NPGdKYtAM

John McCain was many things – a proud graduate of the Naval Academy, a Senate colleague, a political opponent.

But, to me, more than anything, John was a friend. He will be missed dearly. pic.twitter.com/AS8YsMLw3d

John McCain’s courageous and selfless lifetime of service is a profile in American exceptionalism. Prayers this evening for the Senator, Cindy and the entire McCain family.

R.I.P. John McCain and thank you for your heroism.

John McCain's finest moment (for me) came in 2008, when a woman at a rally referred to Obama as an Arab. "No, ma'am," McCain replied. "He's a decent family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with." That's manning up.

John McCain - often didn't agree with him but can't argue his dedication to serving as best he knew how. Two recent moments by which to remember him fondly: publicly shutting down his silly supporter's racist claim about Obama and then putting the thumb to healthcare thieves. RIP

John McCain believed that every citizen has a responsibility to make something of the freedoms given by our Constitution, and from his heroic service in the Navy to his 35 years in Congress, he lived by his creed every day. https://t.co/946T7PnG53

I count it as a blessing to have had the honor to serve with John McCain in the Senate and on the Armed Services Committee. If there ever was a true American patriot, John was that patriot. I’ll miss his strength and his maverick spirit, but most of all I’ll miss his kindness. pic.twitter.com/UzYvlRN1No

1,962 days.
That’s how long John McCain was a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
He survived, thank God. He went on to show all of us what it means to be a great and selfless American.
RIP to a great man, John McCain.

Karen and I send our deepest condolences to Cindy and the entire McCain family on the passing of Senator John McCain. We honor his lifetime of service to this nation in our military and in public life. His family and friends will be in our prayers. God bless John McCain.

John McCain was an American hero, a man of decency and honor and a friend of mine. He will be missed not just in the U.S. Senate but by all Americans who respect integrity and independence. Jane and I send our deepest condolences to his family.
